Sarah and JJ: 8.7.2010 | Chantilly, VA Wedding

August 30th, 2010

This is JJ and Sarah on the night of their rehearsal dinner enjoying taco dinner and margaritas with family and friends.   Their wedding was at Truro Church in Fairfax and Westfield’s Marriott in Chantilly – the two very locations that Jason photographed Sarah’s brother’s wedding nearly 4 years ago!

Sarah envisioned a black and white formal affair for her wedding a white and dark purple Calla lily bouquet.  Their table settings were labeled by names of places around the world that they have visited together.  Doctor’s Orders was in charge of music for the evening, and they rocked it, along with an encore! Of course some of the best moments for me were witnessing the emotions of family interactions.  You can tell in these photos that there are special bonds between father and daughter, mother and son, friends and of course, Sarah and JJ.  Congratulations, you two!

Aubrey and Loo: 7.24.2010 Amissville, VA Wedding

August 26th, 2010

Sweet Aubrey and Loo.  I just love seeing the two of them together.  When Loo looks at Aubrey, I can see tenderness and awe in his eyes.  We met them six years ago through our friends Todd and Sara, whose beautiful vineyard wedding we photographed in 2008.  In the time that Jason and I have been friends with Aubrey and Loo, we’ve come to know them as our friends who can make great music, delicious food and beautiful babies.  Aubrey has a little baby girl on the way due sometime in September!

It was only natural for the two of them to have a casual and laid back wedding amongst their friends and family.   The celebration took place at Aubrey’s parent’s home in rural Amissville on what felt like the hottest day of the year.  Just about everyone found themselves at some point in the pool, myself and Jason included.

The day before the wedding, Jason and I, along with Todd and a few other friends were hanging out in our dining room.  While Todd was trying to write his speech for the toast, someone came up with the idea of writing a haiku.  This is what we all came up with, and yes, this is exactly what Todd recited at the wedding:

Loo and Aubrey

Louis… is a short ninja

Aubrey… is pregnant

Laughter all around, and Todd continued with a heartfelt speech, and at the end of it, read another haiku:

Loo and Aubrey

They are a perfect pairing

Lifetime happiness

Thank you so much Louis and Aubrey, for being our good friends and for letting me and Jason be a part of your lives and celebration.  It was so amazing to be amongst all of our dear friends on such a special day.  We love you and wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Quick interlude here… Todd read one last haiku that went like this:

Loo and Aubrey

Congratulations

Let’s drink some bourbon

David and Jennifer’s adorable 10 year vow renewal is featured on Where to Get Engaged! The day after they were married, David was immediately deployed to the Gulf.  Ten years later, Jennifer and David celebrated their anniversary with their entire family and closest friends in the backyard of their home in Manakin Sabot, Va.  Jason and I were thrilled to be a part of their celebration.  To view the rest of their feature on Where to Get Engaged, click HERE!

August

August 5th, 2010

I am probably on my way to Northern Virginia when you read this.  There is so much that I will have to blog about this month, and I just can’t wait to share everything with you all!

Our friends Loo and Aubrey got married late last month in Amissville.  Jason and I photographed their entire wedding on 35mm film, a first for us.  As soon as we receive our work back from the awesome Richard Photo Lab, I will post those images… so excited!

We are currently headed to Fairfax and staying at the Wesfields Marriott where JJ and Sarah’s wedding reception will be taking place.  I’ll be up tomorrow at the crack to hang out with JJ and the guys for a groom’s golf outing at Twin Lakes Country Club in Clifton.  Jason photographed Sarah’s brother’s wedding several years ago -  Ryan and Kelly… it will be great to see them and the whole family again!

We’ll be back in Charlottesville to photograph John and Keri’s wedding at Ash Lawn-Highland the weekend after.  These guys have been absolutely amazing to work with.  They literally scheduled their wedding date around our our availability… how flattering is that?!  They have three fun-filled days planned out for their wedding weekend.

Our third week of August will be Sejal and Kunal’s 4 day Indian wedding starting on Thursday the 18th to Sunday the 22nd!  Jason and I are obviously excited about this!  Saturday and Sunday’s celebrations will be taking place at the brand new Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa in Short Pump.  The new hotel is stunning inside.  We love shooting there, and I have to say, their in-house shampoo and conditioner is the bomb.   I had to order my own bottles after using the hotel’s.

We’ll also have a couple of engagement shoots that you probably will see in September.  Please stay tuned.  In the meantime, I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  Stay cool, stay hydrated and be safe out there!

May Veritas Vineyard Wedding | Scott and Mandy Featured on Charlottesville Wedding Blog

August 3rd, 2010

Claire Goodman of the Charlottesville Wedding Blog is presenting a two part feature of Scott and Mandy’s wedding that took place at the UVA Chapel and Veritas Vineyard.  A big thank you to Claire for the lovely write-up, and thank you to Mandy and Scott, who were just the nicest, most sweetest couple to work with.  Keep an eye out for our next Veritas wedding in November.

Kalergis Family

July 30th, 2010

Our good friend Keith Williams had loaned us his Mamiya RZ67 for a couple of weeks to play around with.   Jim and Susan Kalergis, along with their two beautiful daughters stopped by our studio for a quick portrait session.  Jason got this shot using Ilford FP4 film and a bowl of chocolate chip cookies.

I hope that you all have a great weekend!

Preston and Elizabeth: 7.10.2010 Lexington, VA Wedding

July 28th, 2010

The first time we met Preston and Elizabeth was just a few minutes before their rehearsal.  Jason and I immediately felt at home with them… they are just the nicest people.   I also fell in love with their flower girls and ring bearers!  They were so cute!  Preston and Elizabeth currently live in Birmingham, Alabama.  Preston’s passion is music, and Elizabeth wants to open her own yoga studio.

Their lovely wedding ceremony took place inside the historic Lee Chapel at Washington & Lee University where they both went to school.  The chapel’s event planner, Carolyn Tolley did a superb job of managing every detail.  After the ceremony, Preston and Elizabeth traveled by horse and carriage to their reception site at the Col Alto just a few blocks away.  Great appreciation and gratitude went to Southern Inn Caterers whose kitchen was destroyed by a fire the night before!  In spite of what happened, they made dinner happen, and it was great!  Thanks to Washington & Lee University for allowing them to utilize their kitchen for the day!

HOPE: Christmas in July

July 20th, 2010

On Saturday, July 17th, I had the honor of working with hundreds of volunteers for Hope Community Center’s Christmas in July giveaway.  Christmas in July is a program that benefits low income and refugee families in Charlottesville.  Nearly 1,000 people went home with free toys, clothing, furniture and other household items.  Here are some  faces of the wonderful volunteers who helped touch the lives of so many families.

This is Joshua Bare.  He is the Executive Director of Hope Community Center.

I met Sharon Seeley, the Director of Hope for Kids pictured here with a reindeer pal.  She’s a super nice lady, and she’s a Steelers fan, go Steelers!

Marianne Tolley is the Director and the prime innovator of Christmas in July.

Everyone was excited to see Santa Claus.  He made so many children smile!

These guys traveled all the way from Winchester to perform music, dance, face paint and make everyone smile.  I just loved them…. they were just a great bunch to be around.

I unfortunately didn’t catch the name of this group, but will I will post as soon as I find out.  These guys help keep the toys organized and assisted where help was needed.

Of course everybody loved these guys!

WVPT were there and helped take photos with Santa.

I made a lot of new friends including these guys, Officers Brown and Williams!

I love this group photo!

I had so much fun.  I am definitely looking forward to HOPE’s next event.   Christmas in July is just one of the many, many great things that the Hope Community Center is doing for the Charlottesville community.  If you get the chance, check out their website or call the phone number below for more information.
