Ashish and Bhavika’s Mendhi Party

South Asian weddings are truly a colorful and vibrant feast for the eyes, yet I really wanted to highlight some of the black and white images that were taken by me and Jason. I feel that black and white images can sometime strip away the colorful distractions, leaving only the situation and the emotion. These images were shot with a Contax RTS III using Ilford HP5 400 speed film pushed to 1600.

Bhavika and Ashish had friends and family who traveled from nearly every corner of the Earth to celebrate with them, making their wedding weekend a wonderfully international and cultural experience.

The heavy rainfall kept everyone dancing inside until a break into the early evening, a perfect time to pass the hookah pipes and smoke shisha outside of the atrium.

Ashish and Bhavika: Colorful Mendhi Details

Ashish and Bhavika’s three day wedding weekend begins with their mendhi party at the Meadowlark in Vienna. Much of the decor was provided by Roshni and Tejan’s team at Le Reve Creations, and the fantabulous Bhangra beats were mixed by DJ Ravi. Jason and I worked with these guys the year before at Sejal and Kunch’s wedding in Richmond. Working with them again on this weekend felt a lot like working with old friends.
